Ring Botanicals Black Poplar Oil (Populous trichicarpa) is our house specialty, a concentrated infusion of leaf buds in fractionated coconut oil.
Black Poplar (Populous trichcarpa) is spring’s finest offering. Leaf buds are harvested by the Ring family in late winter, just before they unfurl, along our Oregon rivers. Smelling of beeswax, honey, green spring growth, vanilla, spices, and sun-warmed earth. Sweet and healing for the winter-worn soul.
Supportive for deep tissue massage, this oil is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Traditionally applied to burns to encourage hardening of the damaged skin. Works well in combination with other decongestant oils.*
Black Poplar ages beautifully. The fragrance deepens and improves with age. I like to use it as a fixative in my NW perfume blends for it’s ability to support floral heart notes without over-riding their delicate fragrance. Lovely in amber accords.

Our Essential Oils
All of our artisan essential oils are steam distilled for plants we either grow at Ring Family Farm, or wild-craft from remote areas in Oregon. We do not spray our crops with pesticides, and great care is taken with every step of the process. From the baby plants we start from seed, to the plowing of the fields and planting, to the labor of hand weeding, and through to the careful harvest and distillation we are invested with love and care every step of the way. All of our oils are packaged in violet glass to extend shelf-life. Our lavender oils are sold in 100% pure form, while our other lower-yield oils are offered at 20% in fractionated coconut oil (f.c. oil blends with all other carriers and will also dissolve in alcohol for use in perfumes.)
Ring Family Farm is an island safe-haven for native plants and animals displaced by surrounding clear cuts. We are good stewards to our land, fulfilling a promise to protect the natural world we are lucky enough to grow upon.
Nestled in the foothills of the Molalla Mountains, our land supports a wide array of aromatic plants: from rosemary, sages, roses, lemon balm, mints, to many types of lavender and evergreen trees. These fragrant beauties are used in our essential oil distillations and our natural perfume blends. We practice sustainable, organic farming and all of our plants are propagated, planted, maintained and harvested by the Ring family with love.
